Meta to temporarily suspend Threads in Turkey after competition regulator order By biedexmarkets.com

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:) announced on Monday that it will temporarily suspend its social media platform, Threads, in Turkey starting April 29th to comply with a provisional order from the Turkish competition authority.

“To comply with an interim order of the Rekabet Kurumu/Turkish Competition Authority (TCA), we will shut down Threads in Türkiye from Monday 29 April,” Meta announced in a Monday post.

The company clarified in a blog post that this suspension would not affect its other services in Turkey, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The decision follows a recent action by Turkey’s competition authority, which last month implemented an interim measure against Meta to prevent data sharing between Instagram and Threads during an investigation into potential market dominance abuse by the company.

“We disagree with the interim order, we believe we are in compliance with all Turkish legal requirements, and we will appeal,” said Meta.

“The TCA’s interim order leaves us with no choice but to temporarily shut down Threads in Türkiye. We will continue to constructively engage with the TCA and hope to bring Threads back to people in Türkiye as quickly as possible,” it added.
