Asia And Europe Markets Mixed, Crude Oil Dips, Gold Remains Above $2,050 – Global Markets Today While US Was Sleeping – SmartETFs Asia Pacific Dividend Builder ETF (ARCA:ADIV)

On Tuesday, January 30th, U.S. stock markets closed mixed, Nasdaq Composite declined amid expectations of several major corporate earnings reports and the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy meeting.

In economic data, November’s S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller index rose 5.4% year-over-year, FHFA house prices were up 0.3% from October, and job openings increased to 9.026 million in December, up 101,000.

Six of the 11 S&P 500 sector indexes recorded gains, with the financial sector at the forefront and the energy sector closely behind.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.35% and closed at 38,467.31, the S&P 500 declined 0.06% to 4,924.97, while the Nasdaq Composite slid 0.76%, ending the session at 15,509.90.

Asian Markets Today

  • On Wednesday, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index closed the session higher by 0.57% at 36,286.71, led by gains in the Precision Instruments, Shipbuilding, and Insurance sectors.
  • Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 was up 1.06% and closed at 7,680.70, led by gains in the A-REITs, Utilities and Energy sectors.
  • India’s Nifty 50 closed higher by 0.95% at 21,725.70, and the Nifty 500 gained 1.16% to 19,802.10. 
  • China’s Shanghai Composite slipped 1.48% to 2,788.55, while the Shenzhen CSI 300 was down 0.91%, closing at 3,215.35.
  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 1.39%, concluding the day at 15,485.07.

Eurozone at 06:15 AM ET

  • The European STOXX 600 index was up 0.08%.
  • Germany’s DAX declined 0.12%.
  • France’s CAC rose 0.04%.
  • The U.K.’s FTSE 100 traded higher by 0.13%.

Commodities at 06:15 AM ET

  • Crude Oil WTI was trading lower by 1.08% at $76.97/bbl, and Brent was down 0.99% at $81.67/bbl.
  • Natural Gas slipped 0.72% to $2.062.
  • Gold was trading higher by 0.27% at $2,056.45, Silver gained 0.03% to $23.233, while Copper rose 0.05% to $3.9130.

US Futures at 06:15 AM ET       

Dow futures were up 0.12%, S&P 500 futures slid 0.53%, while Nasdaq 100 Futures fell 1.29%.

Forex at 06:15 AM ET

The U.S. Dollar Index was up 0.15% to 103.54, USD/JPY gained 0.12% to 147.78, and AUD/USD rose 0.36% to 1.5200.
