On Tuesday, January 30th, U.S. stock markets closed mixed, Nasdaq Composite declined amid expectations of several major corporate earnings reports and the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy meeting.
In economic data, November’s S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller index rose 5.4% year-over-year, FHFA house prices were up 0.3% from October, and job openings increased to 9.026 million in December, up 101,000.
Six of the 11 S&P 500 sector indexes recorded gains, with the financial sector at the forefront and the energy sector closely behind.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.35% and closed at 38,467.31, the S&P 500 declined 0.06% to 4,924.97, while the Nasdaq Composite slid 0.76%, ending the session at 15,509.90.

- On Wednesday, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index closed the session higher by 0.57% at 36,286.71, led by gains in the Precision Instruments, Shipbuilding, and Insurance sectors.
- Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 was up 1.06% and closed at 7,680.70, led by gains in the A-REITs, Utilities and Energy sectors.
- India’s Nifty 50 closed higher by 0.95% at 21,725.70, and the Nifty 500 gained 1.16% to 19,802.10.
- China’s Shanghai Composite slipped 1.48% to 2,788.55, while the Shenzhen CSI 300 was down 0.91%, closing at 3,215.35.
- Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 1.39%, concluding the day at 15,485.07.

- The European STOXX 600 index was up 0.08%.
- Germany’s DAX declined 0.12%.
- France’s CAC rose 0.04%.
- The U.K.’s FTSE 100 traded higher by 0.13%.
